crab silhouettes

Our assignment was to create three unique and different silhouettes of monsters that are based out of crustaceans, so i have decided to do three monsters that are completely different from each other in size and body type to give myself a better variety. I have made on with a sturdy body very big and it walks on its to hind legs, you can tell that its meant to be a high defence and hard hitting monster. I have also made on with more then two legs, this monster is a bit taller then the other but not as bulky , i did this to show that its built for mobility not defense. the Final Silhouette has no legs what so ever but little pincer type limps on the upper side of the body, i did this so i can cover all aspects of monsters, this one was intended for speed and quick hits.

Barrel

So the first thing that we had to do was follow a guide that our lecturer had given us on how to make a barrel on maya. i was at a big disadvantage because i had never used maya before so i had no idea on how to do anything, what tools were what and what they did. So to start off i took it slow and followed the guide at my own pace and i tried my best to keep up with the lecture. As i went through the guide i had found that it had quite a few pot holes in it, for example by following the guide it would lead to making something go wrong and the guide would skip over on how to fix the problem and go straight to the step after fixing the problem. To counter this I asked the lecturer as many questions as i can and when he offered assistance i took him up on his offer, but after getting use to it and going over the guide slowly and what i had done slowly i stated to see solutions, which then allowed me to progress further in the guide.

This is my first attempt at making a barrel, i had gotten the shape down ok but then i proceeded to adding texture to the barrel, this will make it look much more like a real barrel.  the picture on the right is my second attempted which is where i added some basic texturing just so it looks like a real barrel. But then i trie to take it a step further and added more texturing to make it look as realistic as i could. The image bellow is my final attempted, as you can see I added textures that made the barrel out of wood as well as added metal for the rings at to make it even more realistic i also added bolts to the metal.

Robot Designs

For our first assignment we had to design three robots, and then with does three robots we create a final design and add colour to it.
As you can see I went for a kind of mech design, giant robots designed for war, this gave me the freedom to add weapons. I wanted to make my designs as big as I could and the most humanoid as as I could. The way I look at robot designs is that the more weapons they have the cooler they will be, that's because that is what I am most interested in. the first design I had a lot of trouble creating the legs and the torso, and I found it even more difficult to connect everything together, so this led to me making a lot of changes.

I then went for a thinner design to see if that looked better, I also went for a ranged weapon on this mech as well as less weapons and no shoulder armaments, in the hope of making the mech seem lighter and more agile. It also looks more human like then the first design, i finished of the design by going over it with fine liner and I also added more detail to the design like wires in the gaps of the armour. and other details like chinks in the armour and some little wear and tear.

For my third design i decided to go in a different route and design a robotic animal, this animal is meant to more graceful then threatening. when designing it i did not include any weapons of any sort, the only weapon that this robot has is its shear size, it is meant to be the size of giant skyscrapers. this robot is more like the herbivore in the jungle, non aggressive unless provoked, its mane function is to watch over other robots as well as collect materials such as important materials.

For my final design I went with an animal as my base, but this time I used a more aggressive animal as my base. this robot was inspired by a wolf, I designed it for the sole purpose of combat and hunting, I fused my to separate ideas of creating a combat mech and a robotic animal and out of it I created the WH000 (Wolf Hunter 000) this is meant to be the prototype of a new warfare unit, built for infiltration and demolition. being the prototype I was being experimental so I decided to draw different weapons to see which looked better. I went for one cannon on it shoulder as well as two rocket launchers one on its back and one on its shoulder as well as its claws and teeth. I went with a black colour as its primary colour to give it camo feel as well as to make it look more menacing, and I went with a gold yellow colour because it goes well with black. To finish the design off I added red to parts of the WH000 that are meant to glow to represent blood lust.
