Tentacles

our assignment this week was to create something that has at least six tentacles, to tackle this task I started drawing a humanoid tentacle monster. I had decided to design an over weight monster, with a kind of infected look.

This was my first initial design, and around the main design I chose parts of the body to go into further detail, as you can see one of these parts was the head. I started off drawing a kind of swelling a boil on his head, but then decided to change it to one massive rock and tentacles that are holding it in place. I then decided to change to multiple rocks on his face and add more tentacles, by doing this it gave the look that the rocks were sinking as well as it made the skin of the monster look like it was alive and doing its own thing. Around the eye I drew dark parts coming out of the eye this made it look like it was corrupted and a sense that darkness is just oozing out.

i decided to go for a normal skin colour, i chose this colour because i did not want to give the look that my monster is rotting or a kind of zombie but instead a living and growing organism. i also made the full arm covered by rocks to give it an overpowering look and i also made the other arm in a kind of shell with tentacles coming out of cracks. I call this monster Gluttony

Roots

After a bit of thinking i had decided that to make my arena more visually pleasing i would add roots on the ground, and then i would make these roots seem like they were coming out of the ground in all directions. As well as holding peaces of ground together, this would make the ground look like it has been ripped from earth.
I had never done curves like these before so i had to do some practice as well a lot of trial and error, after my tutor showed me how to use the correct curve as well as extruding easier i became much more confident in making these roots. i started making a few roots some single and some with more branches as well as different thicknesses and lengths.

This is only an example of some of the roots I was able to achieve, i was also able to get these smooth curves by putting the taper down as well as using the smooth sculpting tool. this tool was a big help in taking care of any rough finishes.
i put most at the bottom of the ground and then made rocks and put the roots through the rocks to give the sense that they are whats holding them together

Zombie

This week our workshop was Halloween Themed, we were given a model of a woman in maya and the diffusion of that model to be put into photoshop. this is so we can change how the model looks and turn it to a zombie.

This is how the diffusion of the model looked like at the start of this assignment and now i had to change this to make it look like a zombie. which means make it look dark and very gruesome.

This is how the diffusion looks
like after I had completed the transformation, i had even taken some of the skin off and added bone so it looks like the skin had wasted away. The pictures on the bottom is how the model looks like in Maya while wearing the diffusion that i changed on Photoshop.

More Cliffs and Pilers

The next thing that i started to model is what i like to call the back cliff, so basically i started off by duplicating the main cliff in the middle and and gust changing the size and the shape, i did this multiple times until i got what looked like a multi layered
wall and the back of the arena. this would signify the boundary of the arena as well as give the feeling of being surrounded and sheer size.  This was the out come, as you can see i managed to put in a lot of cubes and copies of the cliff into making this model, which makes it look more realistic i think.

I then started to make pilers, this was because i wanted to put pilers around y arena, standing upright as well as broken and in pieces on the floor. i started of making a simple cylinder and tweaked some of its transforms as well as extruded some of the faces inside to give it little curves and indents. ti finish it of i then went ahead a beveled the edges of the pilers to make the top seem smother.

These were to be the small pilers that were broken up all over my arena so not much detail was needed, but to cut them up I had to use the multi cut tool to break them up and the be able to drag the cut parts off. After i had made a few of these i then started working on bigger pilers that would be situated on the edges of the arena. with these pilers I had to go in to a bit more detail because these were going to much bigger so they have to be able to catch the eye more.  With these pilers i even made a top for them which was just a cube that i had beveled on both the top and bottom and then cut it so it looked broken up on some pilers.

Lava Monster

So in Class last Monday we focused on lava and getting the correct effect, by using styles we were also given a style to use on a picture of a golem and change it using the lava style how we see fit. This is my version of the lava Golem and as you can see i added the lava style in the cracks of the rocks.

Our assignment was to create a Lava monster of our choosing, so i decided to go ahead and create a lava dragon thats armoured in molten rock. When drawing dragons i like to draw dragons that are capable on standing on their two hind legs instead of all four, this gives the dragon a sense power and superiority as well as it makes it more humanoid. the dragons name is Vulcan as in the god of fire and volcano fire in roman mythology. I looked at plenty of dragons to inspire my idea and i picked the best ones and made a mood board for reference while making my Vulcan.

This is vulcan at the end of the first stage, this is where i got his body shapes including the details on the rocks as well as de shading for the colours, that i will be adding later.

This is now the final version of Vulcan, in this version i have added the colour as well as the lava style and some finer detail, i have also messed around withe the lighting and the levels of the drawing as well to make the lava pop out a bit.
